The glow comes from strontium aluminate — a photo-luminescent pigment mixed directly into the silicone during molding. This is the same technology used in emergency exit signs and watch dials. When the tag absorbs light (sunlight or indoor lighting), the pigment stores that energy and slowly releases it as a visible aqua-green glow for 6–8 hours in darkness. Unlike cheaper zinc-sulfide glow pigments, strontium aluminate does not degrade over time and is non-radioactive.

Fresh glow lasts 6–8 hours after a 10-minute charge. To recharge, simply expose the tag to any bright light source: direct sunlight (5–10 min), LED lamp (15–20 min), or UV lamp (2–3 min). The cycle is repeatable indefinitely — charge, glow, charge, glow — for the lifetime of the product. Even after 5+ years of daily use, our SilGlow tags retain over 70% of their original glow intensity.

Yes. Strontium aluminate is classified as non-toxic and non-radioactive by the EU REACH regulation and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. It is commonly used in children's toys, watch dials, and emergency signage. Our SilGlow silicone has been independently tested to EN 71-3 (toy safety migration of certain elements) and passes FDA / LFGB food-grade contact standards. There is no radiation, no chemical leaching, no skin irritation risk.

Yes — the flat side of the heart is laser-engravable exactly like our non-glow tags, supporting name, phone, address, and QR code. Because the glow pigment is solid throughout the silicone, engraving removes a thin layer but the surrounding material still glows around the engraved text. For best readability at night, we recommend white or pale daytime colors (sky blue, lavender, light pink) so the engraved text shows up dark against a luminous background.

The SilGlow tag itself is not reflective — it is photo-luminescent, meaning it emits light after being charged. It will be clearly visible to anyone within 5–10 meters in very low-light conditions (garden, dim park, dawn/dusk). For true driver-visibility on roads or near cars, we recommend pairing this tag with our separate reflective collar strip series, which uses retroreflective material meeting ANSI/ISEA 107 standards. Many of our retail customers bundle both for a 24-hour safety solution.

Lighter daytime colors glow brightest because the pigment shows through less silicone depth. The top 3 brightest colors are Sky Blue, Lavender, and Light Pink (visible glow time: 7–8 hours). Medium colors (Yellow, Mint Green) glow 5–6 hours. Dark colors (Black, Forest Green, Navy) glow only 3–4 hours. If you're building a line, we'd recommend Sky Blue + Lavender + Pink as your core assortment for maximum customer-visible glow.
